Hurricane Helene Takes a Direct Hit on Hope Partners

Hurricane Helene pummeled the East Coast with catastrophic flooding, downed trees, and terrifying damage to thousands of homes and businesses. In St. Petersburg, Florida, home to Kirk and Violeta Nowery, the storm surge was unprecedented as almost 7 feet of floodwater engulfed their community.

Kirk and Violeta were traveling back to the U.S. from a month-long mission trip when the hurricane struck. When the Nowerys finally made it back to their neighborhood it was a scene of utter devastaton. Their own house was in shambles—furniture overturned, debris covering every surface, and irreplaceable items lost to the 4 feet of water and sewage that had filled the house for 30 hours. Nothing was salvageable, and the structure is a complete loss. For the next five to six months the Nowerys will be forced to live elsewhere in temporary quarters.

Kirk and Violeta would not ask for help, even though they have dedicated their lives to helping others. But many in the family of Hope Partners supporters want to help out in these extraordinary circumstances. Friends at Hillside Community Church in Keller, Texas, were the first to step forward in contributing toward the above-and-beyond needs that the Nowerys are now experiencing. Despite this hardship, Kirk and Violeta are trusting in God as they continue to focus on what matters—rescuing children through the ministry of Hope Partners. Kirk shared these thoughts today…

“Even when we lose most of what we’ve worked for, we keep our eyes on what really matters. We may not know His will, but we trust in Him with all our hearts to strengthen us for the challenges ahead.”

We are grateful for the generosity of caring friends at Hillside Community Church, led by Pastor Pete Chiofalo. We invite you to join with them in helping to meet needs that aren’t covered by insurance and won’t be met through disaster relief funding. Your donation will help provide immediate relief as Kirk and Violeta face the daunting and messy task of simply getting back to normal.

Thank you for your help with this very unusual request. Please think of this as our first-ever “love offering” for this devoted couple whom so many appreciate.

Your donation will help provide immediate relief as they face the daunting task of rebuilding.

Please stand with Kirk and Violeta as they rebuild their lives. With your help, they can find hope amid the rubble. Together, we can be their shelter in this storm.

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.” – Isaiah 43:2
