Hope for Venezuela: Earthquake Relief Through Local Churches
Powerful earthquakes have devastated communities across Venezuela, leaving hundreds dead, thousands injured, and countless families searching for loved ones beneath collapsed buildings. Entire neighborhoods have been reduced to rubble, and many families have lost everything in just a matter of moments.
For more than 12 years, Hope Partners has served children and families in Venezuela through our Hope Center in Barquisimeto. While our Hope Center was spared from major damage and our children and staff are safe, many neighboring communities were not.
As rescue efforts continue, another need is becoming clear. Families need food. They need clean water. They need blankets, hygiene supplies, and basic necessities. They need to know they have not been forgotten.
That’s where Hope Partners is responding, in partnership with local churches already serving their communities.
We already know who God has called us to serve. In moments like this, we stand beside the local church as they care for their communities.
Our Hope Center Director, Luis Rea, is working in partnership with local churches serving communities affected by the earthquake. These pastors are already on the ground. They know the families. They know where the needs are greatest.
Hope Partners will purchase emergency supplies locally and provide them through our partnership with local churches, allowing pastors and church leaders to care for families in their own communities quickly and effectively.

Esperanza para Venezuela: Ayuda por Terremoto a Través de las Iglesias Locales
Poderosos terremotos han devastado comunidades en toda Venezuela, dejando cientos de muertos, miles de heridos e incontables familias buscando a sus seres queridos bajo los escombros de edificios derrumbados. Barrios enteros han quedado reducidos a escombros, y muchas familias lo han perdido todo en cuestión de momentos.
Durante más de 12 años, Hope Partners ha servido a niños y familias en Venezuela a través de nuestro Centro de Esperanza en Barquisimeto. Aunque nuestro Centro de Esperanza no sufrió daños graves y nuestros niños y personal están a salvo, muchas comunidades vecinas no corrieron la misma suerte.
A medida que continúan los esfuerzos de rescate, otra necesidad se hace evidente. Las familias necesitan alimentos. Necesitan agua limpia. Necesitan cobijas, artículos de higiene y necesidades básicas. Necesitan saber que no han sido olvidadas.
Ahí es donde Hope Partners está respondiendo, en asociación con las iglesias locales que ya sirven a sus comunidades.
Ya sabemos a quiénes Dios nos ha llamado a servir. En momentos como este, nos ponemos al lado de la iglesia local mientras cuida a sus comunidades.
Nuestro Director del Centro de Esperanza, Luis Rea, está trabajando en asociación con iglesias locales que sirven a las comunidades afectadas por el terremoto. Estos pastores ya están en el terreno. Conocen a las familias. Saben dónde son más grandes las necesidades.
Hope Partners comprará suministros de emergencia localmente y los proporcionará a través de nuestra asociación con las iglesias locales, permitiendo que los pastores y líderes de la iglesia cuiden a las familias en sus propias comunidades de manera rápida y efectiva.

Searching for Agua in Venezuela
The situation in Venezuela remains dire, with malnutrition, hyperinflation, and limited access to stable jobs affecting the population. In the midst of these challenges, the Hope Center in Barquisimeto, Venezuela is committed to rescuing children from malnutrition and social risk while providing educational support. However, the center faces its own set of challenges in securing resources and funding for their incredible work.
At the Hope Center in Venezuela, a greenhouse and a farm with pigs and chickens have been established to provide food for the children. Unfortunately, the lack of access to water prevents them from utilizing all their land and maximizing their potential. The center is in desperate need of funding to dig a well and address this critical issue.

A Community Born Out Of Tragedy
In December 1999, Venezuela was devastated by the Vargas Tragedy. The mountains softened up and broke off like crumbled cookies, releasing about twenty million cubic feet of rocks and mud over the towns. This natural disaster of massive flooding killed tens of thousands completely erasing entire cities and led to the complete collapse of the state’s infrastructure. Three days of torrential rains left an estimated 190,000 people displaced, and they were relocated into mass government housing throughout the country. An area just outside of the city of Barquisimeto, west of Caracas, became home to over 5,000 families creating one of the worst slums in Venezuela.
A local business leader and pastor began a center to serve the needs of this population but struggled to find funding as the needs continued to increase.
Fundapais Center
In 2019, Hope Partners International began a partnership with Fundapais. Now, just a few years later, more than 1,000 children are treated weekly in 8 child care centers receiving medical care, balanced nutrition, education, trauma counseling, and spiritual guidance, as well as visits to assess their family environment and respond to their needs.
Breaking the Cycle of Malnutrition
Our teams of doctors, nutritionists, nurses, psychologists, and workshop leaders, among others, train and advise caregivers who have malnourished children. We partner with these caregivers who are often the unsung heroes of their communities and show them that they have a chance to break out of the cycle of poverty they find themselves in.
We work with them on a daily basis providing nutritious food for their family most especially children, this allows them to grow healthy. We carry out workshops for parents, educating them and teaching them trades such as cooking, decorations, carpentry, animal husbandry, and agriculture among others. This allows them to obtain income which in turn allows them to get out of the cycle of poverty. Now empowered, they can provide their children with a better quality of life. And most importantly, the families that come to our Hope Centers experience the great love of Christ within the family of God.
The Problem
The recent humanitarian crisis has caused an increase in violence, and an increase in the cost of basic needs such as food, water, electricity, clothing, and housing. This crisis caused millions of people to leave the country, however, those who remain are in precarious conditions. Inflation and unemployment have been higher than in any other poor country in history and most people in the Fundapais Hope Center area are unemployed. Those who work earn less than $1 a day to support their entire family. And for families with more than five members, this causes hunger and misery for all. The result is more crime in the neighborhoods making Venezuela one of the most violent countries in the world. Unfortunately, those who suffer the most are women and children.
The Project
Our vision of the Venezuela Hope Center is to continue to bring the Hope and Love of Christ as we work to see lives and communities transformed. The first priority is to help meet your immediate needs.

Why should you help?
That is a valid question. We did not cause the problems in Venezuela, so why do we have to solve them? The worst of socialism and the corrupt local leaders made Venezuela enter the worst chapter of its national life. However, at the end of the day, it is sin and our broken humanity that causes all the problems in this world. We Christians are the ones who have historically been called to be light in the world, to be salt, and to build bridges of hope. By doing this, we are part of the solution; we are repairing the world together and pointing people to our generous Heavenly Father.
We are asking different friends, churches, and organizations to help us meet these needs to support Venezuelan families and children, thus showing the love of Christ.
Hope Partners International will transfer funds to Venezuela and arrange for the regular shipment of medicines and supplies through our network and partners on the ground.
Sustainable Agriculture Project
In the midst of all the shortages and the increase in the cost of healthy and nutritious food, Hope Partners Venezuela is working on incorporating of an area for the production of food through agriculture and livestock with the purpose of producing food, educating, and opening sources of employment for families in poor communities. This project favors 50 families with jobs.
