Romania Summer Camp 2023

Recently, our Hope Partners teams in Romania embarked on a remarkable adventure, leaving behind the shores of the Black Sea and venturing into the picturesque Mare River Valley in the Retezat mountains. The purpose was to accompany a group of children from after-school centers in Siminoc, Babadag, and the Hope Partners Boys’ home. The location of this transformative experience was the Bradatel Christian camp in Western Romania. The joyful expressions on the faces of the children served as a reminder of the impact this journey would have on their lives.

Arriving at the camp, the children were greeted by a breathtaking view. On one of the walls, the words “A place closer to the sky” was a hint of the beauty that awaited them. For many of the children, it was their first encounter with the majestic mountains. Their faces radiated with joy and enthusiasm, as they eagerly embraced this new adventure. The scene was set for a life-changing experience.

Throughout their time at the camp, the children embarked on a journey to explore faith and spirituality. The dedicated team of mentors guided the children, unveiling the secrets and mysteries of Jesus’ footsteps. Through music, worship, and prayer, the children connected with the spiritual realm, forming a bond with their Creator. Inter-relational games brought them closer together, fostering valuable social interactions.

This camp was not just about spiritual growth; it also offered a plethora of thrilling activities. Ziplining, rock climbing, and navigating obstacle courses injected a much-needed dose of adrenaline and excitement into the journey. Sports like volleyball and football provided avenues for teamwork and honing their sportsmanship. Hiking expeditions led the children to the most extraordinary places, such as the Raul Dam Mare Retezat, a place that overwhelmed them with its beauty. Exploring the Bison National Park and stepping on the ancient ruins of Ulpia Traiana Sarmisegetuza, a Roman city dating back thousands of years, ignited their curiosity and enriched their historical understanding.

Their journey also took them to historically significant sites, captivating the children’s imagination. The centuries-old Corvins Castle, widely known as the symbol of Transylvania, was particularly fascinating. The children learned about the legends surrounding this fortress, including the imprisonment of the infamous Wallachian Prince, Dracula. Their awe continued as they visited the zoo, where mischievous monkeys and majestic lions stole their hearts. The visit to the Prislop Monastery of Arsenie Boca, a revered saint in the Orthodox sphere, further deepened their connection to faith and spirituality.

The camp’s primary goal was to provide children from disadvantaged backgrounds with a nurturing and inspiring environment for holistic development. By immersing themselves in the wonders of nature, connecting with their Creator, and following in His footsteps, the children discovered a sense of purpose and direction. The camp’s motto, drawn from Isaiah 43:1, echoed in their hearts, reminding them that they were not alone on their journey.

The presence of God was palpable throughout the camp, touching the hearts of many children. This transformative experience left a lasting impact on their lives, instilling gratitude and hope for a brighter future. It was a testament to the compassion and dedication of the team at Hope Partners International Romania and the generous contributors who made this camp possible.

Our unforgettable journey to the Bradatel Christian camp brought together children from disadvantaged backgrounds and offered them an opportunity to grow, learn, and connect with their spirituality.
